Wynward Insurance Group welcomes new chairman

Gregg Hanson served as president and CEO of Wawanesa from 1992 to 2007

Gregg Hanson has been named chairman of the Wynward Insurance Group, following the retirement of Curt Vossen.

“I am delighted to become Chairman of Wynward,” Hanson said in a statement. “The company has seen strong profitable growth with an energetic, passionate and hard-working team. I look forward to assisting the company to continue its momentum as a leading 100% Canadian-owned commercial insurer.”

A veteran of the insurance industry, Hanson joined Wawanesa in 1979 and became its president and CEO in 1992, a position he held until his retirement in 2007. He is currently a director of Wynward, as well as its parent company, James Richardson & Sons Ltd.

Hanson is past chairman of the Insurance Institute of Canada, the Property and Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation and the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction. He has also served as a council member of the Insurance Institute of Manitoba and a board member of the Centre for the Study of Insurance Operations.
