Aviva enhances identity theft coverage

The insurer has increased its policy limit for all expense claims related to an incident

Aviva Canada has modified its identity theft coverage as cyber security awareness month gets underway.

The enhanced product includes an increased limit of $40,000 per policy term for all identity theft expense claims. Other features include a limit of $5,000 per policy term to cover any financial loss due to identity theft; constant credit bureau monitoring and two credit bureau reports for six months after an identity theft claim; and access to an identity theft case worker to help customers identify and restore their finances and personal information after an identity theft claim.

“October is cyber security awareness month and it’s more important than ever for Canadians to be vigilant with their personal information. From January 2014 to December 2016 alone, Canadians lost more than $290 million to identity theft fraud and online scams,” said Phil Gibson, chief underwriting officer at Aviva Canada, in a statement. “We want to empower people to protect themselves online and in daily interactions where they might be vulnerable.”

The insurer has also released a video for consumers that is designed to provide suggestions on avoiding various theft tactics such as online scams and the capture of PIN numbers.
