Gore Mutual’s Fast Forward Returns for Second Year

A crowd of 750 brokers descended on Koerner Hall in Toronto on June 14 for Gore Mutual’s latest Fast Forward event.

The day featured panel discussions on a variety of issues brokers face in an increasingly digital marketplace, as well as keynote presentations from Rick Mercer and Peter Mansbridge.

“The way we see it, the world is moving at a faster pace than ever before,” Paul Jackson, Gore’s chief marketing and distribution officer, told Canadian Insurance Top Broker. “It’s driven by technology, but customer expectations follow that technology, and we, as an industry, are way behind where the customer is today.”

Hot topics of discussion included how brokers can compete with direct writers and adapt to evolving consumer expectations.

“The insurance industry has not really been a customer-centric industry. It’s traditionally delivered service in the way that insurance companies want to deliver service,” said Neil Weir, Gore’s vice-president of claims. “We’ve got to, as an industry, become much more focused on what the customer wants out of the experience.”

This was the second year Gore has hosted Fast Forward. Igor Bubic, Gore’s director of marketing and communications, says the event was conceived to give brokers a forum to talk frankly about challenges facing the industry.

“I came in at a time when the insurance industry was really starting to think about the changes that were impacting them—the expectations of consumers, this rapid growth of digital,” Bubic said. “What I came to discover was that, while there were dialogues that were happening, they weren’t very forthright, hard-hitting dialogues. We wanted to create an event where we could have a safe zone to have those dialogues.”
